7/31 Week 8 day 1：Puppet development

Today I feel sick so I stay at home. I bought some air dried clay during the weekend, so when I feel better I start to make a prototype. My project is about fleeing and it discussed the relationship between mother and daughter. Therefore I make a puppet head based on my mother figure. I also got influenced by John Galliano's fashion show make up and I apply it on the puppet head. I have a sense of achievement when I finish it, even though it seems not to related to my theme.I decide to use this puppet head in the future and give it meaning.

8/1 Week 8 day 2: Sketchbook development

I did not went to school yesterday therefore I have to catchup. Today is all about experimenting different materials and put it on my sketchbook. I want to discuss more about female fleeing, where I start to focus on uterus autonomy. I think if the freedom of womb can not be controlled by women theirselves,we need to flee. I experiment a lot of materials to express the chaotic and sacred atmosphere of womb and they went well. I learned from Owen by using alcohol based paint and drip it on paper,so it forms a natural color swirl. I find the texture formed by nature is very beautiful. I also got the inspiration from Louis Bourgeois’s textile work good mother,I think fabric is such a soft material,it is the most appropriate thing to express femininity Therefore I made a collage of uterus by fabrics and threads. It is very challenging and I think I should try as much as materials in the future.

8/2 Week 8 day 3: Puppet‘s joint experimentation

I really want to make a stop motion film therefore I need a puppet that can move. Today is all about testing out the materials to make jointed skeleton.I feel a bit frustrated when I failed at making ball joint which is made all by clay, it has to be super precise but my skills are not that professional.The second time I tested out wire joint, and I succeed on that by making a small demo using beer lid. Since the wire method is usable，tomorrow I will go to the metal workshop and make a body for the puppet head.

8/3 Week 8 day 4: Metal workshop

What new skills or areas of exploration have you discovered and will use moving into next week?mentation stage.

the new skills that I develope today is using wires to make joints，I connect them physically using the techniques on jewelry. It is very useful and I will move it to make more puppets next week.I learned that experimenting using real materials is much more useful than hundreds of hypothesis.

Which ideas are becoming your favorite and why? Are you excited to explore these ideas?

The ideas of creating different characters for the stop motion film becomes clearer and clearer. I have never tried stop motion before but I'm not afraid of challenge. Therefore this weekend I will be learning stop motion animation online and go to exhibitions.

Recently I am very effective and finish everything ontime，therefore I am satisfied with my self. I am ready to move in next stage which is exploring photography and stop motion film.

8/4 Week 8 day 5：Experimentation Reflection

How do you feel about your ideas at the moment? Do you feel you have explored many potential reactions/ideas?

My idea of final outcome is female fleeing from her original family and paternal expectations.It is discussed over centuries therefore I have to demonstrate the theme in a different mindset. I do think I explored many ranges on my divergent thinking map.

Have you used a range of methods and techniques? How has this helped generate ideas? Give examples.

To make this project I experienced a lot of techniques such as using alcohol based paint, wires and fabrics. Different materials provide different information and textures on the artwork. It helps me to generate ideas variously, for example I use pink fabrics to depict uterus by taking inspiration from Louis Bourgeois. Fabrics are soft and the colour can match with the theme.

What ideas or methods are you wanting to take forward for next week. Why have you chosen this?

Next week I want to focus on puppet making and stop motion skills. I choose this because it is such a good way to present a story. Stop motion animation using puppets such as corpse bride and Coraline usually provides a creepy morbid atmosphere. Where as the unique style it provided can help me express my thoughts.
